Normal Craziness

Normal Craziness is the focal point of my master thesis project, exploring common quirks such as meticulous obsessions, mysophobia, and various other pet peeves encountered in everyday life. The focus is on understanding how these behaviors, reminiscent of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), manifest in regular individuals. By investigating the triggers of these pet peeves and observing their interactions with their surroundings and objects, the aim is to uncover the emotional and psychological motivations behind these behaviors. Through this exploration, the project offers a fresh perspective to identify unnoticed needs and inspire the reevaluation and redesign of products.
“Chopping Board”
Cooking requires a delicate balance of intuition and precision, which can be challenging for those who crave order and consistency. To meet the needs of individuals exhibiting traits of "normal craziness," the chopping board is redesigned with a grid pattern inspired by cutting mats, implying precision cutting. This design retains functionality while enhancing aesthetics, offering ease of use and facilitating precise measurements.
“Film Index”
Traditional rectangular index films often result in distress, with labels appearing misaligned or disorderly when books are closed. To address these challenges, the redesigned Film Index adopts a circular shape, ensuring consistent placement and alleviating misalignment concerns. The circular design also improves durability, reducing wear and tear. Moreover, adjustments to the production process create angled stacks for easy label retrieval, minimizing frustration during use. A positioning cardboard maintains uniform label placement and protects both the films and packaging, enhancing organization and durability.
“Clip Hanger”
Clothing shopping brings joy, but achieving perfect tidiness can be challenging due to fabric softness, leading to wrinkles and triggering normal craziness. Inspired by the paper clip's simplicity, Clip Hanger keeps crossed sleeves in place. Moreover, the hanger functions as a board, flattening clothes and reducing wrinkles. This design aims to streamline clothes organization, ensuring efficiency and tidiness.
