“Ghost Fishing Nets In The Ocean”

Ghost fishing gear poses a significant threat to marine life, trapping wildlife indiscriminately and subjecting them to a slow and agonizing demise. Annually, a staggering 640,000 tonnes of 'ghost gear' is lost or abandoned in oceans worldwide, endangering marine ecosystems. In 2020, Taiwan Ocean Conservation Administration cleared about 41,000 kilograms of marine waste in Taiwan's surrounding oceans, predominantly consisting of abandoned fishing nets.

“Sustainable Circular Economy”

In response, Hibang was established and collaborated with manufacturer partners, utilizing Taiwan's recycled material technology and manufacturing capabilities to repurpose discarded fishing nets into valuable daily necessities. The primary goal is to increase the recycling rate of these nets by enhancing the value of re-nylon material and establishing a sustainable circular economy model.

Following extensive design and development, three types of glasses have been meticulously crafted to suit Asian faces, combining classic simplicity with versatility. These glasses, crafted from recycled fishing nets, not only prioritize environmental sustainability but also adhere to EU RoHS, REACH, and GRS certifications, ensuring safety for humans and the environment alike.

To further champion sustainability, Hibāng has implemented a circular system to facilitate the recycling of every pair of eyewear at the end of its lifecycle. Additionally, a low-friction trade-in program encourages users to exchange unused eyewear for a discount on new purchases, thereby reinforcing the commitment to building a robust zero-waste circular economy model.
